Helping Lantinx parents to navigate the day-to-day of our school system in a safe and culturally-proficient environment. This creates an inclusive space for parents to interact to each other and learn about resources with the goal of Latinx students to flourish to their full potential.
Our members and volunteers serve in various community functions and committees in our county since 2013:
- Howard County Council Racial Task Force
- Board of Education Operating Budget Review Committee (OBRC) and Community Advisory Council (CAC)
- HCPSS Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Advisory Committee
- HCPSS Policy 1080 Educational Equity
- Mental Health Community Advisory Council
This initiative came to fruition as a response to the challenges faced by the Howard County Latinx community during the COVID-19 pandemic. The taskforce works as a distribution hub of translated community resource information.
The Latinx population is growing at a rate 3 times faster than the general population in Howard County, Maryland. We are the fastest growing minority.
The Latinx community continues to grow and thrive, and so do our needs.
In surrounding counties, the Latinx community has access to culturally proficient services, e.g., bilingual mental health services for students and translation of all official documents, including election ballots
